Maple-Brown Abbott head of equities Garth Rossler to succeed MD and CIO John Kightley.

Maple-Brown Abbott (MBA) managing director and chief investment officer John Kightley will retire from executive duties and be succeeded by MBA head of equities Garth Rossler effective 30 June.

Kightley, who has been managing director since July 2000, will remain a director of the firm and a major shareholder, with his client portfolio responsibilities to be distributed among other portfolio managers within MBA's investment team, a company statement said.

"Kightley has played an outstanding role in developing the institutional business at Maple-Brown Abbott and leaves the firm with an experienced team well resourced to continue to serve our clients," the company said.

Rossler, who is also a director of the firm, has been intimately involved in all aspects of MBA at a very senior level and has been the acting managing director during periods of Kightley's absence.

Rossler's previous role of MBA head of equities will now be divided, the company said.

Effective 1 July 2009, MBA investment analyst and portfolio manager Dougal Maple-Brown will become a director of the firm and will be appointed head of Australian equities.

Director and portfolio manager Geoff Bazzan will take on the role of head of Asia Pacific equities.
