After retiring late last year, former AMP chief executive has joined CBA.

Former AMP chief executive Andrew Mohl has emerged as a new director of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).

Mohl retired as chief and managing director of AMP in December 2007. He will step into his new role with CBA on 1 July 2008.

Mohl is highly regarded in the industry and has been very successful in his previous roles, said CBA chairman Dr John Schubert.

"He has highly relevant experience in the management of large and complex financial services groups," Schubert said.

"We look forward to his contribution to the workings of the board".

Mohl announced his retirement in August 2007 but stayed on at AMP until the end of the year before being replaced by Craig Dunn.

With more than 30 years experience in the financial services industry, Mohl's previous roles include serving as director of AMP Life and AMP Capital Investors.

He has also worked for the Reserve Bank of Australia for eight years as deputy head of research as well as at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
