New information resource about fixed-income markets to better inform advisors and their clients.

Asset manager Pimco has launched a new website to help advisors better understand fixed-income markets and how bond investing works.

"With many people in the equity market seeing returns decline significantly over the past 12 months, retail investors and their advisors' interest in defensive assets, such as fixed-income products, has increased quite substantially," Pimco head of retail investments Peter Dorrian said.

According to research undertaken by Pimco last year, while advisors had a broad knowledge that bonds were a relatively low-risk asset, few were well-informed about the ins and outs of bond investing.

"With continuing volatility in world equity markets, an ongoing US and UK housing crisis, and the demise of several hedge funds, investing in fixed income can offer a prudent alternative for investors seeking a safe haven for their funds and the website ensures advisers are informed and up-to-date," Dorrian said.

The website includes educational materials and tutorials, information regarding the different sectors that make up the bond market, the risks associated with fixed-income securities, market updates, fixed-interest calculators, regular newsletters and video presentations.

"The website is designed for financial planners and advisors, although it's a valuable resource for paraplanners, clients and anyone interested in learning more about fixed-income markets and bond investing," Dorrian said.
