Securitor has launched an academy to address the career development needs of paraplanners.

St George-owned dealer group Securitor has announced the official launch of the Securitor Paraplanning Academy.

Designed for advisers' support staff, the new initiative aims to address the career development needs of paraplanners, and improve overall operations within practices, Securitor head Neil Younger said.

"Paraplanners will learn how to use [integrated financial planning and practice technology] AdviserNETgain for the purpose of producing statements of advice, as well as soft skills such as how to improve communications, interactions with advisers and time management skills," Younger said.

Candidates will need to be existing paraplanners from Securitor and Licensee Select businesses who are: currently writing statements of advice, comfortable with AdviserNETgain, RG146 compliant or equivalent and able to pass the entry examination based on RG146.

Administrative, qualification and assessment support will be provided by the Australian Institute of Financial Services & Accounting, and paraplanners will also be able to access post-course support through Securitor, Younger said.

The academy will combine self-study distance learning with two, three-day face-to-face workshops.

The first course will kick off in February 2009, with more to be scheduled on demand.
