In a bid to take the lead in security issues Sunsuper has appointed a chief security officer for the first time.

Sunsuper has strengthened its security capability with the appointment of Greg Wiltshire to the newly-created role of chief security officer.

Reporting to Sunsuper general manager of operations and IT Francis Cox, Wiltshire will be responsible for enhancing the information security systems and business continuity processes of the Queensland-based super fund.

Prior to his appointment Wiltshire was employed by Bridge Point Communications where he proved himself to be an expert in information security, in particular the protection of highly-sensitive data.

He has 25 years experience as a security specialist.

"The nature of our business requires us to manage members' sensitive and confidential financial information, as well as administer billions of dollars in funds on their behalf," Sunsuper chief executive Tony Lally said.

"Our members expect us to value and protect their interests to the highest standards, and Mr Wiltshire's appointment is part of our bid to further enhance the security of the fund and establish ourselves as leaders in the field."

This appointment comes on the back of Sunsuper's recent acquisition of super fund administrator Precision Administration Services.

The multi-industry fund has more than one million members and $12 billion of funds under management.
