Top TFSA advisers have been recognised for their performance at a ceremony in Melbourne last night.

Dealer group Total Financial Solutions Australia (TFSA) has named Johansen Financial Services adviser Michael Holmes as Adviser of Year at a ceremony in Melbourne last night.

The annual TFSA awards event, which was combined with a professional development conference, assessed advisers against criteria including production, industry participation, compliance, completion of professional development requirements, nurturing of new adviser talent and overall practice management.

"When selecting winners we also looked at factors outside their own businesses, taking into consideration how they've assisted other practices within the wider group and been involved in the industry and their local communities," TFSA chief executive Phil Aris told InvestorDaily.

"Michael was a stand-out candidate as he runs a sound operation and his continued interaction with advisers from across the TFSA group has been remarkable.

"He has been very active within TFSA committees and within his community, particularly during the recent bushfires."

The award ceremony shone the spotlight on other TFSA advisers as well, such as John Hartman from Hartman Agencies who was named Risk Adviser of the Year, and Dean Alden from Dean Alden & Associates who was named Financial Planner of the Year.

Nixon Fox & Wills was named Practice of the Year and Brad Fox from Nixon Fox & Wills was given the Next Generation Award, which recognises new talent.

"Despite challenging market conditions and the changes that TFSA has undergone over the last 12 months, these award winners have continued to drive their businesses," Aris said.

TFSA is currently in merger talks with an unnamed company, which is rumoured to be Count Financial, with an announcement expected in July, Aris said.
