Insurance broking veteran Jeff Smith is on a winning streak.

Aon Australia's Jeff Smith has been judged New South Wales's best broker for the second time.

The NSW National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) awarded Smith the NIBA NSW Qualified Professional Individual Broker of the Year Award.

It is the first time that an individual has won the award twice.

"Each year we ask insurers and underwriters to rate insurance brokers in terms of their strength of client and underwriter relationships, their knowledge of the business and of risk and their contribution and commitment to the insurance industry," Aon's national manager retail risk services Steve Lardner said.

"Jeff's win was very well deserved."

Smith said he's not resting on his laurels.

"I last won the award in 1996. So I'm aiming to continue the trend and win it again in 2018," he said.

Smith has spent 36 years in the insurance industry.

The last 34 years have been with Aon and its predecessor companies.

He has risen through the ranks at Aon and at various times has worked as a senior account executive, account director, claims director and marketing director.

His current job is Aon retail risk services divisional manager.
