Zurich makes two appointments and a promotion within its global corporate division.

Zurich Financial Services Australia (Zurich) has appointed two senior casualty managers and a global head of casualty to grow and strengthen casualty lines for its global corporate division.

Andrew Beare has been hired as senior casualty manager for the northern region and will be responsible for New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand.

Jim Christou has joined Zurich as senior casualty manager for the southern region and will be responsible for Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

The newly-created roles follow the promotion of Mark Sbaglia from national casualty manager to global corporate head of casualty for the Asia Pacific.

"Zurich is now extremely well positioned to take a leadership position in casualty lines in Australia and New Zealand with the bolstering of our casualty team," Zurich head of global corporate Kai Dwyer said.

"The experience and talent of our team, together with the strength of Zurich's global financial position and acknowledged competencies ... gives Zurich the edge needed in this highly competitive market."

The casualty underwriting team will continue to develop the global corporate casualty portfolio by working closely with Zurich's network of insurance brokers, Dwyer said.

Beare joins Zurich Australia from Zurich Hong Kong where he was part of the senior regional underwriting team. Christou comes from Chubb Insurance, where he was a casualty manager.

Zurich's casualty division deals with legal liability insurance.
