HSBC Philippines chief executive Tony Cripps has been appointed as chief executive of HSBC's operations in Australia, effective 24 December, to drive further growth in the region.
Mr Cripps replaces Paulo Maia, who will move to take up the chief executive role in HSBC's Canadian business, succeeding Lindsay Gordon who is retiring from the group.
HSBC Asia Pacific chief executive Peter Wong said the appointments reflect the growing significance of Australia within HSBC's global strategy.
"Australia is one of 20 priority growth markets for the HSBC Group and we are committed to growth in this market," Mr Wong said.
"With an increasingly international population, we see growing demand for cross-border banking services. As Australia's trade and investment links with Asia continue to grow, HSBC is helping clients capitalise on Australia's role in the region," he said.
Mr Cripps moves into his new role with over 25 years' experience working with HSBC in Australia, Hong Kong, the UK and the Philippines.
Mr Maia has previously held senior positions with HSBC's Brazilian business, and a variety of roles in HSBC's businesses in São Paulo and London.
