One sporty adviser is pulling on his joggers for a worthy cause - a family plunged into financial strife because they did not have financial advice.
Avenue Capital Management planner Troy McPhee is tackling a 123km running, cycling and swimming challenge to raise around $50,000 for a family in Sydney's west.
McPhee heard through a client that a man had been killed in a workplace accident, leaving a wife and baby son. He had recently switched his super and did not realise the new fund did not offer life insurance, leaving his family destitute.
"It's unfortunate that so much attention has been given to the advice provided when people switched super, but no attention to all those people who didn't get advice at all because they were put off it and have ended up much worse," he said.
McPhee completed the 2006 Blackmores Sydney half-marathon in 2hr 29mins and will cycle 100km from Sorrento to Melbourne in October. He has already done a 1.9km swim.
