Beachside villas in Brazil are competing with high-rise apartments in Kuala Lumpur and log cabins in Lapland, the report says.
Some of the more exotic locations highlighted are Lapland and Cape Verde, a republic off the west coast of Africa. Brazil, according to one property firm, has property prices rising at more than 20 per cent a year and many buyers are British retirees living la vida loca at less than £1000 a month.
Bulgaria has been another star performer, boasting gross rental yields of 12 per cent and a total return on cash invested of 116 per cent. In the land of the midnight sun and Santa, Finish property promoters are predicting prices are about to go into orbit. Cape Verde is being touted as the new Canaries, with good capital appreciation over the last year. And even Montenegro is undergoing reforms designed to bring economic growth and foreign investment.
And for those who prefer something a little less exotic but no less close to home - there's always the home of Neighbours and Home and Away. And our property market could do with a bit of foreign investment right now.
