Investment boutique Walter Scott and Partners is no stranger to proudly trumpeting its Scottish roots. While the fund manager was in Australia earlier this month in talks with local partner Macquarie Bank, Sydney's finance community was treated to some old-fashioned Edinburgh hospitality. By all accounts, Walter Scott's evening in celebration of Scottish national poet Robert Burns at the University of Sydney's Great Hall was a truly Scottish affair, right down to the dress code - black tie or kilt.
Mac Bank took up the challenge with relish, and engaged a tailor from Sydney's Scots Clan Tartan Kilt Hire to kit up the lads from the bank who were attending. Said one industry observer: "They probably enlisted a private equity firm to buy out their clan."
