Accounting association appoints new president and reshuffles board.

CPA Australia (CPA) has announced the appointment of a new president and a board reshuffle that includes the association's first ever non-member directors.

Alex Malley will take the reins as president of the accounting body from October.

Malley is currently chief executive of professional medical association USANZ. He was previously CPA deputy president.

Commenting on his new position Malley said: "Given the growing global demand for accountants and the different learning and communication expectations of the new generation of professionals, it's never been more important for us to be forward thinking and responsive."

Malley's appointment was a natural progression for the CPA. He was elected New South Wales divisional president in 2003, a board vice president in 2005 and deputy president in 2006.

Professor Richard Petty FCPA and Low Weng Keong FCPA have been named as Malley's deputy presidents.

Malley's appointment follows an extensive governance review of the association which ended in the hire of a new 12-member board, including two non-members.

The two non-member directors are Queensland Eye Hospital chief executive Mark Grey and Deacons director and partner Kerry Ryan.
