BT Financial Group has named Sean Allen as Magnitude's new chief.

BT Financial Group (BT) has promoted Sean Allen to the role as chief executive of its dealer group, Magnitude Financial Planning.

Allen has been promoted to the top job following former Magnitude boss Mark Spiers' move to the role of Westpac/BT Financial Group general manager, advice.

"Magnitude remains a key part of BT's advice business and an attractive opportunity for experienced advisers and established practices to join an innovative and leading financial advice network," Spiers said.

Prior to accepting the role with Magnitude, Allen held the position as Westpac Financial Planning head of advice, NSW.

He has held a number of senior roles with HSBC, CBA and Colonial, and has worked with independent advisers and dealer groups at state and national levels.

Spiers announced his move in May. He replaced Sally Herman who has moved to the role of general manager - sustainability, brand and communications for Westpac.

BT chief executive Rob Coombe said Spiers' in-depth knowledge and understanding of the issues and opportunities within the financial planning industry would help shepherd BT's advice business into a new era of customer service and solutions.

Spiers is currently deputy chair of the FPA and has sat on the legislation and regulation committee for eight years.

BT's advice business is responsible for more than $20 billion of clients' funds and brings together the Westpac financial planning and advice services teams as well as Magnitude Financial Planning.
