Macquarie looks to revise its head count division by division.

Macquarie Bank has said it will continue to review its staff numbers on a business by business basis in response to reports that around 100 employees were made redundant yesterday.

"Macquarie businesses respond to market circumstances on a business by business, region by region basis," a Macquarie spokesperson said.

"All of our businesses look at their staffing levels constantly. Over the past 12 months there have been numerous changes to staffing levels across the businesses."

The official statement came after it was reported around 100 members of staff had been let go yesterday.

It is understood the staffing cuts were made across the organisation's operations in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Macquarie becomes the latest financial services firm to revise its staff numbers.

In early November AMP Capital Investors reduced its head count by 30, while BT let go 100 of its employees back in July.
