FICA has appointed a new chair to replace outgoing IFSA chief Richard Gilbert.

The Finance Industry Council of Australia (FICA), which represents the combined interests of some of Australia's main financial sector associations, has hired Duncan Fairweather as its chair.

Fairweather will replace outgoing Investment and Financial Services Association chief executive Richard Gilbert.

Gilbert was chair of FICA for two years.

Fairweather was previously Australian Financial Markets Association executive director for eight years.

He has 29 years' experience in public policy and government relations in financial markets, banking, property and the manufacturing industry.
"It is vitally important for government and industry to work together to ensure that regulation is well targeted and applied while allowing the financial sector to be efficient, innovative and competitive," Gilbert said.
