BNY Mellon has appointed Navin Suri as its head of intermediary distribution to lead its intermediary and wholesale partnerships in the Asia-Pacific.

BNY Mellon has appointed Navin Suri as its Asia-Pacific (APAC) head of intermediary distribution, as the global investment manager commits to the intermediary and wholesale space.

The newly created role will involve Suri spearheading the expansion of the company's distribution partnerships in the region and Suri will report to Alan Harden, chief executive of the APAC investment management business and PeterPaul Pardi, head of global distribution, based in London.

Suri will be responsible for the development and management of the APAC intermediary sales strategy and distribution channel network and relationships, which will run alongside BNY Mellon's development of client-focused strategies and solutions to meet the changing needs of investors in the region.

He will be based in Hong Kong and will build new partnerships with consumer banks, private banks and family offices, insurance and pension providers, securities companies, independent financial advisers and other financial intermediaries.

"Asia has now surpassed both Europe and the United States in the number of millionaires and we may see that gap widen further over the next decade in Asia's favour," Harden said.

"To truly become one of the premier investment firms in the Asia-Pacific, it is crucial that we excel in the key areas of distribution and client service, not just to the institutional market but the wholesale market as well."

Harden said BNY Mellon has been under-represented, therefore, Suri's goal will be to explore how to best service the space in a differentiated and compelling way.

Suri holds over 20 years of investment management distribution experience and joins BNY Mellon from a managing director and chief executive role at ING Investment Management in India. He previously held senior positions at Citi Bank in Singapore, New Delhi and Bangalore.
