In the newly-created role, Mr Landman will be tasked with positioning BlackRock as a leader in alternative investments in Australia.
BlackRock manages approximately US$113 billion in alternative assets globally, of which over 20 per cent originates from the Asia Pacific region.
Mr Landman has more than 18 years of industry experience, joining BlackRock from Ascalon Capital (a subsidiary of BT Financial Group) where he was chief executive officer.
According to Mr Landman, the weighting of Australian portfolios to alternative assets is growing and this is driving growth at BlackRock.
"As more investors combine active and passive strategies, they will be drawn to managers with proven risk management, transparency, and the scale to provide access to global investment opportunities," he said.
"I am delighted to be joining BlackRock, with its deep roots in every region across the globe and commitment to bringing exceptional alternative investment ideas to its clients."
