Insurance provider makes senior appointment

Zurich has made a senior appointment to its Australian branch with the appointment of Philip Anderson as chief underwriting officer, life and investment.

In his new role, Mr Anderson will focus on realigning its proposition to better suit the needs of customers.

"Phil brings to our team a rare breadth of senior experience across product, underwriting and distribution, and as our business moves into its next strategic phase, his appointment leaves us well placed to offer a world-class underwriting service model that is agile, responsive, and has customers and advisers at its very heart," Zurich chief executive officer Colin Morgan said.

"Being able to attract someone of Phil's calibre speaks volumes for both the importance of our Australian business within the region and the scale of our growth ambitions."

Mr Anderson has been with Zurich for the last five years as head of protection business development for Asia Pacific and the Middle East and will be returning to Australia after more than eight years working in Asia.

He also held a number of senior positions at ING, including chief underwriting officer and head of national distribution.

Mr Anderson will take up his position by the middle of April.
