Select Asset Management has partnered with private equity group, Barwon Investment Partners.
Through the partnership, investors will have access to a range of Australian and global private equity investments normally only available to the wholesale market. The products are available via the Select Private Equity Portfolio, jointly managed by Select and Barwon as part of the Select Alternatives Portfolio.
"One of the factors that makes the Alternatives Portfolio unique is its exposure to private equity, which is typically a difficult asset class for investors to obtain exposure to, primarily because mainstream wholesale unlisted private equity funds are generally illiquid and may only open to institutional investors", Select chief investment officer Dominic McCormick said.
The Alternatives Portfolio uses a multi-manager approach, incorporating both listed and unlisted investments. Select has over $590 million in funds under managment in its registered schemes.
Barwon was established in March 2006, by Sam Armstrong and Rob Morrison and operates as a specialist private equity investment manager based in Sydney. Armstrong has been a member of the Select investment committee for the Alternatives Portfolio for almost a year.
In addition, Select has appointed two new staff, investment specialist Stephen Barbarich, formally at Three Sixty Research (part of the NAB/MLC Group) and a general legal counsel, Anthony Fleming, previously a partner with Baker & McKenzie and before that, with Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
