BT has promoted Mark Spiers to lead the BT/Westpac advice business.

BT Financial Group and Westpac has ended the search for a new general manager for advice following the promotion of Mark Spiers to the role.

Spiers, the chief of BT's Magnitude Financial Planning dealer group, replaces Sally Herman who has moved to the role of general manager - sustainability, brand and communications for Westpac.

BT chief executive Rob Coombe said Spiers' in-depth knowledge and understanding of the issues and opportunities within the financial planning industry would help shepherd BT's advice business into a new era of customer service and solutions.

"I am confident that Mark Spiers' leadership of our advice business will help us achieve this goal," Coombe said.

"Sound financial advice has never before been such a vital service to so many Australians. There remains an enormous challenge for our industry to engage with our customers," he said.

Spiers has held a number of senior executive positions in the financial advice industry.
