SSgA's Mark Lazberger returns to Australia to take up the chief executive role at CFSGAM.

Colonial First State Global Asset Management (CFSGAM) has hired Mark Lazberger to become its new chief executive.

Lazberger is currently based in London working as executive vice president and head of State Street Global Advisors' (SSgA) international business. He will return to Australia to take up the new position from 1 September 2008.

Lazberger replaces Warwick Negus who stepped down from the chief executive role earlier this month following the completion of his three year contract.

CFSGAM deputy chief executive Neil Cochrane is filling the position on an interim basis.

Lazberger has a broad background in global funds management and distribution with extensive experience in Europe, Asia and Australia, according to Commonwealth Bank Group's wealth management executive Grahame Petersen.

"He has demonstrated capabilities in client relationship management, strategy formulation, execution and management of teams across cultures and geographies," he said.

"Our focus on delivering superior investment performance for our investors will continue under Mark as will our strategy of offering global investors a range of innovative investment products."
