The Self-Managed Super Fund Professionals' Association of Australia (SPAA) is set to roll out educational standards for postgraduates with an SMSF audit course to be delivered through the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in January next year.
"Two of the deliveries, which are in law and tax, are going to be delivered through the postgraduate opportunities for SMSF, which will give five subjects in the masters and postgraduate area for SMSF advice," SPAA chief executive Andrea Slattery said.
The SMSF audit course will enable postgraduates to obtain a designation that acknowledges them as a specialist auditor as well as specialist adviser.
SPAA originally approached various TAFEs, registered government organisations and universities to pitch the initiative, Slattery said.
"If you're going to have a profession, those professionals need to be serviced and so we approached the universities and had a bit of a chat with them," she said.
"We've also assisted them with our educational standards and the people who can write and deliver the courses at that level, so we've been quite instrumental in developing those opportunities for the universities."
