Hostplus hires a tourism expert to help grow the fund's profile in the North Queensland market.

Hostplus has recruited tourism expert Stephen Olle to help the industry superannuation fund break into the North Queensland market.

In a move to forge stronger links with North Queensland's hospitality and tourism sector, the fund has appointed Olle as its manager of strategic partnerships in the region.

Olle, who is currently a director and chairman of Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ), began the new role on 1 September. He will be based in Hostplus' Cairns office to assist with the fund's growth strategy in the region.

Hostplus chief executive David Elia said Olle's appointment would help the fund forge stronger involvement with key players in North Queensland.

"Stephen has worked with a number of our affiliates and partners including TTNQ and the AHA [Australian Hotels Association], and has an intimate understanding of the nature of the North Queensland hospitality and tourism landscape," he said.

"This will be enormously beneficial to Hostplus' strategic pursuit for growth in this critical tourism and hospitality region."

Earlier this year Hostplus stepped up its plan to boost its profile in Queensland, hiring hospitality industry luminary Greg Holmes as manager of strategic partnerships.

The fund also boosted sales and service staff numbers this year in its Brisbane office with the appointment of Daryl Whittaker to the position of manager new business.
