MTAA Super has appointed former Victorian premier John Brumby as chairman of the $6 billion industry superannuation fund.
Brumby will take up the role on 4 April, replacing David Lloyd, who was appointed interim chairman in September last year.
During his 27-year political career, Brumby was premier of Victoria from July 2007 to November 2010, leader of the Labor opposition in Victoria from 1993-1999, state treasurer from 2000-2007 and state and regional development minister from 1999-2007.
He brings to his new role extensive achievements in the infrastructure sector, which forms a key part of MTAA Super's investment portfolio.
As treasurer, Brumby led the development of a national approach to public-private partnerships, which resulted in projects such as the Melbourne Convention Centre, EastLink and the new Children's Hospital.
MTAA Super chief executive Michael Delaney said Brumby's appointment was the result of an extensive and detailed recruitment process undertaken by an executive search firm.
"John's longstanding commitment to industry funds and his knowledge of the infrastructure, finance and energy sectors ensures his detailed contributions as chairman will help provide the best outcomes for MTAA Super members," Delaney said.
"John's commitment to public service along with his impressive credentials as a leader and administrator means that he is an excellent choice to lead MTAA Super.
"I am very confident that MTAA Super and its members will benefit greatly from his significant experience at the forefront of some of Australia's major infrastructure projects as well as his knowledge of industry policy, governance principles and essential financial reforms affecting the superannuation sector."
