Financial planners will share knowledge during a six-day professional development tour.

Former Olympic gold medallist Betty Cuthbert will speak at the first day of a nationwide educational roadshow run by the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA).

Cuthbert, who became the first Australian athlete to win a gold medal on Australian soil, will represent Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia at the AFA Professional Development Series 2 session in West Perth on July 17.

"The AFA believes that the key to any strong profession is based on the links established between its members - it is an association run by advisers for advisers," chief executive officer Richard Klipin said.

"The professional development series is one of the many initiatives aimed at strengthening those links, allowing advisers to learn from the experience of their peers in a collegial and supportive environment."

Successful advisers will share sales and advice skills.

Presenters include JWP Financial Advisory Services principal James Walker-Powell, 2006 Rising Star of the Year Jason Danjoux and 2006 adviser of the year Troy Edmondson.

Topics include the underinsurance gap, succession planning, business preparation and client appointment skills.

The AFA Professional Development Series 2 will be in Victoria on July 18, SA on July 19, Tasmania on July 24, Queensland on July 25 and NSW on July 26.
