United States-based active manager subsidiary Janus Capital International has hired Ric Van Weelden as international consultant relations managing director.
Van Weelden was formerly a Watson Wyatt partner and head of European business development.
"Ric's role will be critical to the growth of our institutional and intermediary business outside the US as we build on the strong momentum we are seeing for our US and global mathematical and fundamental investment strategies," Janus Capital International chief executive officer Erich Gerth said.
Van Weelden will work in the UK alongside global consultant relations managing director Carolyn Patton.
Van Weelden has more than 20 years' investment industry experience in London, New York, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
After joining Watson Wyatt in 1999 as a senior investment consultant, for the past six years he was a partner and head of European business development.
Previously, he spent eight years in several senior client servicing and marketing roles with Commerzbank International Capital Management.
Janus Capital International is a subsidiary of Denver-based Janus Capital Group.
At the end of June 2007, the group managed US$190.6 billion in assets for more than four million clients globally.
Janus opened a Melbourne office in February to build business with local wholesale superannuation funds.
