Musical chairs played as AWM chair leaves to take up vacated Tower position.

Australian Wealth Management (AWM) has hired John Warburton as its chairman following the resignation of Rob Thomas.

Thomas announced yesterday he was leaving to take up the role as chair at financial services group Tower Australia.

Warburton has served as AWM non-executive director since last year, following the group's merger with Select Managed Funds.

He is also a director of MFS Living and Leisure and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust and chairman of the Port of Hastings Corporation and City of Melbourne audit committee.

Thomas will assume the role of Tower chairman immediately following the exit of Keith Barton.

Thomas said outgoing chairman Barton played a key role in Tower's turnaround.

"Barton joined Tower at a difficult time in its business. He also played a key role in seeing it rebuild to a position of financial and market strength and then chairing it through the geographic separation process," he said.
