Axa moves to stop the amount of paper used by advisers to become more environmentally friendly.

Wealth management firm Axa is aiming to be eco-friendly after pledging to stop its advisers using paper by promoting more use of its online tool.

Axa is aiming to stop its advisers using paper by mid-July and will apply the more eco-friendly approach to other divisions at a later date.

The move came after the firm discovered its advisers went through more than seven million pieces of paper or 134 mature trees, Axa said in a statement.

Description of products like superannuation, funds and insurance will be shifted to the firm's internal web tool Axa Online, where data can be stored online for seven years.

Everyday client emails and internal communications will also be received online only.

"We wanted to make the communication process more efficient, reduce our impact on the environment and our advisers are happy to make the shift online," Axa sales and marketing general manager Adrian Emery said.

Last month, the Australian Greenhouse Office accredited Goldman Sachs JBWere's local operations as carbon neutral.
