The Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) has appointed Andrew Arkell as its president.
He has replaced Robert DiMonte who has completed the maximum one-year term in the job.
Arkell is also Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) corporate and advisory services head and has more than 24 years' business experience.
He has held various posts with the ICAA, which include being a Queensland Regional Council member and board member from 2004 to 2007.
As president, Arkell will lead the board in overseeing the strategic direction of the institute.
"Accounting is a profession that is increasingly diversified as more demands are placed on business," Arkell said.
"Chartered accountants play an integral part in the Australian economy and I am looking forward to representing all sides of the membership in this important role."
In Australia, the ICAA has 46,800 members.
The institute is also a founding member of the Global Accounting Alliance that has over 700,000 accountants.
