Colonial First State has appointed Kylie Macfarlane to head up two of the group's aligned financial planning businesses.

Colonial First State (CFS) has appointed Kylie Macfarlane to head up two of the group's aligned financial planning businesses, including Whittaker Macnaught and St Andrew's Financial Planning.

She will oversee the strategic development, operational management and long-term growth prospects for the two businesses, CFS general manager of distribution Paul Barrett said.

"This appointment is testament to our commitment in supporting two very successful businesses and ensuring we provide strong management foundations for their ongoing success," Barrett said.

Macfarlane was formerly CFS head of retail business development and she has more than 16 years experience in financial services, including as head of corporate superannuation at CFS.

Whittaker Macnaught director Noel Whittaker said the group welcomed the increased involvement of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in CFS and its commitment to growing the business.

CFS acquired Whittaker Macnaught and St Andrew's as part of CBA's $2.1 billion acquisition of BankWest in December 2008.
