Maurice O'Shannassy to leave BlackRock

BlackRock Australia managing director Maurice O'Shannassy will retire from the asset management giant.

BlackRock Australia (BlackRock) managing director Maurice O'Shannassy will retire from the asset management giant after a 23-year career in the investment management industry.

O'Shannassy has most recently led BlackRock and prior to that Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and the Mercury Asset Management businesses in Australia.

He will continue in his current role until the successful close of the transaction and integration of BlackRock and Barclays Global Investors (BGI).

O'Shannassy will be replaced by Will Britten, who will head BlackRock's Australian businesses.

Britten is currently BGI chief executive of Australia and New Zealand.

BlackRock Australia's account management group head Damien Frawley will become the deputy head of BlackRock's Australian businesses as well as head of the global client group in Australia.
