Medical professionals who obtained Asteron's Needlestick Option as part of their policy would receive a 50 per cent reduction in the cost of that benefit, the company said.
The premium reduction for those who already hold the option will be applied at their next policy anniversary.
The Needlestick Option also now allowed up to $1 million cover for occupationally-acquired HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C for new and existing Asteron Lifeguard policyholders, Asteron said.
The option also provides extended coverage to include airborne and splash transmissions in addition to needlestick injuries.
"Australian medical professionals can face some unique risks in the performance of their day-to-day work, including the possibility of serious infection through needlestick injury," Asteron general manager Jordan Hawke said.
