Bennelong's chief will take the helm at agribusiness group GrainCorp.

Fund manager Bennelong Group's chief executive, Alison Watkins, is set to take the reins at listed agribusiness company GrainCorp.

Watkins will start on 9 August. Her remuneration package includes fixed pay of $950,000, reviewed annually and benchmarked against a relevant peer group.

"We are delighted to have attracted someone of Alison's calibre and experience to GrainCorp," GrainCorp chairman Don Taylor said.

"Her strategic capability, understanding of agriculture and operational credentials are a great fit for GrainCorp at this important stage in the growth of the company."

Watkins is currently the head of Bennelong Group, an investment and funds management business with commercial and philanthropic interests in Australia, the United Kingdom and Middle East.

Previously, she was ANZ regional banking managing director, responsible for regional and rural customers in Australia and New Zealand.

"It's a great privilege to take on the GrainCorp CEO role. GrainCorp is one of Australia's leading agribusinesses. I am excited to be leading a business that plays to my strengths and passions," she said.

"I look forward to working with the GrainCorp board, management team and employees across GrainCorp's Australian and international operations."

Former GrainCorp head Mark Irwin resigned in January. Chief financial officer Ian Wilton was appointed interim chief executive.

Bennelong Group chief financial officer Chris Cunningham will join Bennelong Funds Management's board as executive director following Watkins' resignation.
