Online portfolio administration service provider Praemium has enhanced its Smartwrap offering with the addition of a personal superannuation and pension facility.

"We launched Smartwrap about eight weeks ago but most of the planners were waiting for the superannuation option before signing on, as the bulk of their clients' assets were there," Praemium chief executive Arthur Naoumidis said.

"The new elements basically complete the wrap because without the public offer super a lot of planners couldn't really use it and now they can."

The inclusion of a pension component was critical to the enhancement as well, according to Naoumidis.

"Quite a lot of the baby boomers are starting to enter pension mode now, so when you create a public offer fund you can't just offer an accumulation capability - there has to be a pension one as well," he said.

"The planners themselves need the platform to be able to offer administration in the area where their clients' assets are and a large number are in pension mode and this is only going to increase as their clients get older and older."

Praemium is intending to add a self-managed superannuation fund component to the platform in the near future.
