UBS Global Asset Management has appointed Victor Gomes as a portfolio manager for the Australian Small Companies Fund.

UBS Global Asset Management (UBSGAM) has boosted its small caps team with the senior appointment of Victor Gomes as portfolio manager for its Australian Small Companies Fund.

The move comes after two of the three key members of the UBSGAM small caps team- portfolio manager John Campbell and investment analyst Jeremy Bendeich - left the company.

Gomes has 17 years investment management experience, and will co-manage the Small Companies Fund alongside Stephen Wood, UBSGAM said.

He was most recently portfolio manager at Selector Funds Management and before that co-founder of Hayberry Investments.

In both roles he had responsibility for company research and portfolio construction covering all sectors of the Australian equity market with a particular focus on companies outside of the top 20.

"We are delighted with this high calibre appointment that will strengthen our Small Companies team and broaden its capability," UBSGAM Australia and New Zealand head Ben Heap said.

"Victor's strong experience and successful track record in absolute return all-cap investing will further enhance our client offering."

Gomes will start with the small cap fund next month.

UBSGAM would look to add a further member to the small caps team, a company spokesperson said.
