Kerrie Kelly has left her post as chief of the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
The former Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) chief executive has left her United Kingdom-based position after less than six months in the role.
Late last week, the ABI confirmed Kelly's departure, citing a need to return to Australia for personal reasons as the motivation behind her exit.
"Although she has only been here for a short time, Kerrie has had the drive and energy to make an impact on the organisation and the industry during an important period. I am grateful for her contribution and wish her well in her future endeavours," ABI chairman Archie Kane said.
ABI director of life and savings Maggie Craig will replace Kelly as acting director general while a permanent replacement is found.
"With over 30 years of experience at the cutting edge of financial services and the insurance industry, Maggie Craig possesses all of the qualities required to step up to this challenging role," Kane said.
Kelly took up her role with the ABI in early 2010.
She took on the role as ICA chief in April 2006 after resigning as FPA chief in March the same year.
