Paul Costello to chair the stronger super consultation panel.

The advisory group formed to assist the government in implementing the Stronger Super Package stemming from last year's Cooper review has appointed Paul Costello as its chair.

"Paul was the general manager of the Future Fund until the end of last year. He has considerable superannuation experience in both Australia and New Zealand and I thank him for accepting this important role," Financial Services Minister Bill Shorten said.

Costello will now take the lead of the Stronger Super Peak Consultative Group that comprises a variety of stakeholders in the superannuation industry. These include consumer advocates, employers, employees, and industry service providers.

He will be responsible for ensuring the group carries out its main objective which is to oversee and direct an integrated and consistent approach to implementing those recommendations from the Cooper review that government has committed to adopt.

The first meeting of the group will be held at the end of this month. After this initial meeting the group will then meet on a regular basis.

Other working groups will operate in conjunction with the Stronger Super Peak Consultative Group, helping to facilitate detailed discussions with a variety of public and private sector experts to address technical design and practical implementation issues.

Those stakeholders not included in these working groups can still contribute to the process via the Stronger Super website.
