CommInsure has hired Andrew Kennedy to the role of head of advice distribution.

Kennedy joins the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA)-owned insurer from AMP Financial Planning where he was a regional manager.

In his new job, he will be accountable for new sales, retention and profitability targets across the retail advice business, which encompasses the independent financial adviser and bank-based planner channels.

He will report directly to CommInsure retail advice general manager Tim Browne.

"With the proposed changes to the retail life insurance industry, as a part of the Future of Financial Advice reforms, it is imperative that we focus closely on the strategies required and capitalise on the opportunities that present themselves," Browne said.

"Andrew has demonstrated his ability to successfully lead sales teams and work with key stakeholders to achieve business outcomes."

In line with Browne's comments, CommInsure has created a new position, head of business retention and growth.

CommInsure executive Mark Sheldon has been appointed to the new position.

Sheldon has been caretaking the head of advice distribution role for the past four months and will now guide the overall CommInsure retail advice distribution strategy with Browne, Kennedy and the head of CBA aligned distribution, Olivia Sarah-Le Lacheur.

In his role, Sheldon will be responsible for the distribution, product and pricing, communications and advocacy strategies.

He will also manage competitor and market analysis.

Kennedy will start his new job in early August.

Earlier this year, CommInsure was forced to reshuffle its distribution team following the departure of two executives.

CommInsure head of adviser distribution Todd Kardash and CommInsure NSW state manager Chris Blaxland-Walker resigned in February.

Kardash and Blaxland-Walker's departures followed former CommInsure head of national accounts Simon Harris's exit in December last year.

Harris quit the group to join Guardian Financial Planning as its new executive manager.
