FSC names new deputy chair, director

The chief executive of Schroder Investment Management Australia is the new deputy chair of the Financial Services Council (FSC).

Greg Cooper joins the FSC following the recent resignation of board member and former AllianceBernstein Australia chief executive Michael Bargholz.

Cooper has been a director of the FSC for three years and co-chairs the FSC's investment board committee.

In line with his deputy appointment, he now joins the FSC's administration and risk board committee and nominations board committee.

He joins the chairman of the FSC, Macquarie Bank group head of banking and financial services group Peter Maher, and fellow deputy chairman Colonial First State chief executive Brian Bissaker as an executive of the board.

Commenting on Cooper's election, Maher said: "Greg is a very talented leader in the investment management community and we are pleased to have him increase his involvement with the Financial Services Council as deputy chairman.

"The board also thanks Michael Bargholz for the enormous contribution he made to the FSC as a director and deputy chairman. He is an advocate for the financial services industry and a great contributor to progressive policy."

The FSC board includes Maher, Bissaker and Cooper as well as eight board members.

The board members are RGA Reinsurance Company of Australia managing director Pauline Blight-Johnston, Equity Trustees managing director Robin Burns, BT Financial Group chief executive Brad Cooper, AMP Financial Services managing director Craig Meller, Suncorp Life and Superannuation chief executive Geoff Summerhayes, MLC chief executive Steve Tucker, Goldman Sachs Asset Management managing director Ian Ward-Ambler and Franklin Templeton Investments Australia managing director Maria Wilton. «
