The chair of the Future Fund board is set to join Credit Suisse this month as a senior adviser.

Outgoing Future Fund board of guardians chair David Murray is to join global financial services group Credit Suisse as a senior adviser focusing on the company's Australian and Asia-Pacific operations.

In his new role, Murray will focus on Credit Suisse's corporate, institutional and private clients in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

"I am delighted to be joining Credit Suisse. It is a very highly regarded financial institution with a truly global footprint, an excellent management team and a strong record of providing its clients with relevant global advice of the highest quality," he said.

Murray brings with him more than 40 years of experience in the Australian banking and financial services sectors and considerable knowledge of financial markets.

He spent 39 years at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, holding the position of chief executive from 1992 until 2005.

In his time as inaugural Future Fund chairman, Murray has helped oversee $73 billion of assets.   He is also chair of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds.
Commenting on Murray's appointment, Credit Suisse Australia chief executive David Livingstone said: "This important new hire reinforces Australia's position as a priority market for Credit Suisse and one where we see significant opportunities for growth."   He will join Credit Suisse this month and will be based in Sydney.
