In his new role at ANZ, Farhan Faruqui, who is currently head of corporate and investment banking for the Asia-Pacific at Citigroup, will be responsible for supporting ANZ’s super regional strategy by improving connectivity between ANZ’s 33 diverse markets.
In his 23 years at Citigroup, Mr Faruqui has performed a number of roles, including head of global loans and leveraged finance for Asia-Pacific, head of fixed income for capital markets for Hong Kong and corporate banking head for central Europe.
He will begin the new role in August and report to chief executive for international and institutional banking Andrew Géczy.
Mr Géczy said attracting a person of Mr Faruqui’s calibre demonstrates how far ANZ has come in “building a strong international franchise that is now a serious competitor to the global, regional, and local banks operating in the region,” said Mr Géczy.
He said that Mr Faruqui is an international banker with considerable experience in Asia.
“Throughout his 23 years with Citigroup, he has built an impressive track record developing businesses across multiple geographies. We look forward to him bringing his experience and insights to our customers,” said Mr Géczy.
