The figures indicate total superannuation assets rose by 16.8 per cent in the 12 months leading up to 31 March 2014 and by 1.6 per cent during the March quarter.
The industry rate of return for entities with more than four members and assets exceeding $50 million was 11.5 per cent for the 12 months ending 31 March 2014.
The industry rate of return for the March 2014 quarter was 0.9 per cent.
Contributions for superannuation entities with over $50 million in assets were $22.7 billion in the March quarter, indicating a 9.1 per cent rise from the same quarter last year.
Total contributions for the 12 months were $93.5 billion.
The data also showed outward rollovers exceeded inward rollovers by $446 million.
Total benefit payments for funds exceeding $50 million in assets were $13.4 billion, a 10.3 per cent increase from the March 2013 quarter, which recorded $12.1 billion in benefit payments.
According to the statistics, net contribution flows totalled $8.8 billion for the quarter, a 22.1 per cent increase from $7.2 billion in the previous corresponding period.
Net contribution flows were $35.7 billion for the 12 months ending 31 March 2014.
