Pimco has appointed a new global chief investment officer for 'non-traditional' strategies.

Marc Seidner joins Pimco from his previous role as head of fixed income at investment firm GMO.

He will perform the role of chief investment officer of non-traditional strategies and head of portfolio management for the New York office, effective 12 November 2014.

Working closely with group chief investment officer Daniel Ivascyn, Mr Seidner will oversee several non-traditional investment teams.

Mr Seidner had previously been a senior portfolio manager at Pimco between 2009 and 2014, managing a range of portfolios including Pimco's total return separate accounts.

Mr Ivascyn said Mr Seidner is a “talented, highly experienced investor with broad market expertise and a deep knowledge of Pimco”.

“His return will further enhance our global investment platform,” Mr Ivascyn said. “Marc will be able to seamlessly contribute to our investment process and efforts on behalf of Pimco's clients."

The current head of Pimco's New York portfolio management group, Curtis Mewbourne, will return to the firm’s Newport Beach office as a senior member of the firm’s portfolio management team.

He will continue in his role as head of insurance, diversified income and sector fund separate account teams, and will undertake additional responsibilities when he returns to Newport Beach in mid-2015.

Mr Ivascyn said Mr Mewbourne has been instrumental in establishing and leading Pimco's portfolio management platform in its New York office.

“We look forward to continuing to benefit from Curtis’ leadership upon his return to Newport Beach in the middle of next year,” he said.
