Assets invested in the products increased 18 per cent in the 2014 calendar year, up from US$1.698 trillion to $US2.007 trillion, according to research house ETFGI.
The increase was based on positive market performance and new new assets, said a statement by ETFGI.
"Year to date, the US listed ETF/ETP industry has gathered a record setting US$232 billion in net new assets beating the prior full year record of US$190 billion in 2013," said the statement.
The global ETF/ETP industry, by comparison, reached a record US2.76 trillion in assets at the end of November 2014.
"We expect [global] assets to break through the US$3 trillion milestone in the first half of 2015," said ETFGI.
